Quelle bouchée me rassasie ?

« Ce muscle me sert. J’en ai besoin. »

4. Monter sur la pointe des pieds, 10 fois
Montez doucement, puis redescendez lentement.

Cinq minutes aujourd’hui.

Puis cinq minutes demain.

Ensuite dix.

La promenade s’allonge. Les levers de chaise deviennent plus faciles. On ajoute quelques répétitions.

« Mes muscles me servent.

But behind the word quickly hides a real and important debate medical.

For the Dr. Séverine Mazur, Fast weight loss is not a sign of success, but often of imbalance. Understanding the difference between sustainable weight loss and rapid weight loss is essential to maintaining good health.

What is rapid weight loss, medically speaking?

Weight loss greater than 1 kg per week is considered rapid. Beyond that, it often reflects a disturbance in the body:

dehydration,

muscle wasting,

imbalance metabolism,

fatigue.

A loss of 500 g to 1 kg per week is the norm for long-term maintenance.

Technologies such as Allurion gastric balloon do, however, allow for faster, but medically supervised, loss: on average 7 % of weight in the first month, then 10 to 15 % at four months, with 85 % of patients maintaining their loss one year later.

Why losing too quickly can be dangerous

When weight loss is abrupt, the body interprets this as a threat: it activates mechanisms to metabolic survival which slow down fat burning and promote recovery.
Without physical activity, losses are distributed on average as follows:

⅓ of internal fat (around the organs),

⅓ of external fat (subcutaneous),

⅓ of muscle mass.

Result: the sarcopenia, In other words, the loss of muscle and strength favours the regain of weight in the form of fat. The pounds come back, but in a different way.

The rare contexts in which rapid loss is justified

Some medical situations require rapid loss, but always under supervision:

Before bariatric surgery, to reduce the size of the liver and make the operation safer.

Before other surgical procedures, to reduce the risk of surgery.

In case of comorbidities (hypertension, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome), rapid weight reduction can improve health or fertility.

In all these cases, the priority remains safety and preserving muscle mass.

The dangers of «miracle» diets and fasts»

For Dr. Séverine Mazur, strict diets, prolonged fasting and «detox» cures are to be avoided. avoid absolutely. The brain does not understand negation. does not eat is to reinforce temptation.

These practices lead to deficiencies, dehydration, eating disorders (bulimic or anorexic crises) and lasting disruption of the relationship with the body.

Obesity is a chronic illness, not a simple caloric imbalance; it requires a specific food therapy, not a punishment.

How to recognize a serious program

Effective medical programs are based on four fundamental pillars :

Nutritional re-education and nutritional support.

Adapted physical activity and progressive.

Psychological support, to deal with the associated behaviors and traumas.

Rigorous medical monitoring, with biological check-ups, screening and therapeutic adjustments.

A credible program doesn't announce miracles: it offers a comprehensive care, on at least two years, coordinated by an interdisciplinary team.

When rapid loss becomes a warning sign

Losing weight too quickly can lead to :

significant muscle loss (sarcopenia),

excessive fatigue,

emotional imbalance (dysmorphophobia, anxiety),

sagging skin,

compensatory eating disorders.

These signs call for the process to be slowed down and for medical assistance.

Safe, supervised alternatives

Allurion gastric balloon loss of 7 % the first month, up to 15 % at four months, with stable maintenance.

Supervised medical programs as Optifast or Nuvovi loss of 15 to 18 % over three months, under professional supervision.

Anti-obesity drugs (Contrave, Wegovy, Zepbound): gradual loss over 4 to 6 months.

Bariatric surgery average loss of 20 to 30 % after three years.

Although these methods are faster, they are only effective with the right managing lifestyle habits in the long term.

Beyond weight: the real criteria for success

For Dr. Séverine Mazur, success is not measured on a scale, but in inner transformation:

a better relationship with food,

recognition of hunger and satiety,

psychological serenity,

integrated physical activity,

normalization of blood balance.

It's in this peace with one's body where true victory lies.

Conclusion

Rapid weight loss is not a medical objective, but a commercial illusion.
Visit obesity medicine focuses on durability, safety and respect for the body. What's more, using non-invasive solutions such as allurion gastric balloon is preferred.

So the question is not how many kilos in how long, but how to feel good about your body and your health again.
